From Dreams to Reality: Create Your First Financial Goal in Monelyx

The Monelyx Team

We all have desires: a trip to Japan, a new car, or simply the peace of mind of having a safety net. But a desire without a plan is just a dream.

Today we're launching the Goals module in Monelyx, designed to bridge the gap between "wanting" and "having." Here's how to set up your first goal for success.

Why Create a Goal?

Psychologically, it's much harder to spend money that already has a "first and last name." When you see that $500 isn't just "available balance" but "part of my beach trip," you'll think twice before spending it on something trivial.

1

Define the 'What' and 'How Much'

Be specific. Instead of "Save money," your goal should be "3-month Emergency Fund."

When creating a new goal in Monelyx, the first step is to give it an inspiring name and a target amount. Exactly how much do you need? If you don't know, make a quick estimate; you can always adjust it later.

2

Choose Your Strategy: Automatic or Manual?

Monelyx offers two ways to track your progress, adapting to how you manage your money:

  • Linked to Account (Automatic): Ideal for large goals like a house down payment. You select a real savings account and Monelyx will sync the goal's progress with the balance of that account. If the account grows, your goal advances.

  • Manual (Hybrid): Perfect for smaller objectives or cash. You decide how much progress you've made, or you can link specific income (like a bonus or a garage sale) directly to this goal when creating the transaction.

3

Set a Deadline

A goal without a deadline lacks urgency. In the form, select when you want to achieve this objective.

Monelyx will automatically calculate the remaining days and alert you if you are falling behind. Seeing that progress bar move (and change color) is one of the most rewarding feelings in personal finance.

Pro Tip: Start with a small, achievable goal, like "Christmas Gift Fund ($300)." Achieving it quickly will give you a dopamine hit that will motivate you to go for bigger goals.

Don't wait until Monday. Go to the Goals section and give your money purpose today.
